Oliver Parker on set

Following years of waitressing in countless restaurants, writer Jennifer Higgie felt that she either needed to write a film about her experiences or shoot herself…

There are very few films around with an all female ensemble cast so the actresses were all very excited about the script.  They all expressed that they enjoyed playing their characters as they were written with so much depth and they felt they were so true to life in every way because they were written by a woman.

As soon as Oliver read the piece he knew it was special – he thought that on the one hand it was theatre material but on the other that there was something very stylized about it that would make a fantastic film.

A two room set began as a fairly disconcerting idea – those involved knew it was going to be a challenge and hoped that it would not make the film appear one-dimensional.  The result was the exact opposite and what was created was perfect and the two room set means that the audience remains focused.
